NORCAL March Meeting
The March meeting is scheduled for March 1, 2008.
The location is yet to be determined.
NORCAL January Meeting
January 12, 2008
The January meeting was held Saturday January 12th
at Cisco Systems in Pleasanton, hosted by Tri Valley.
Action items:
- Mites Jamboree -
Mites Jamboree location will be decided this week. The board unanimously
voted to allow the executive board to make the final decision after the
bids are received from Vacaville and Fresno.
- 2008-2009 Tryout Dates -
The board voted to hold the 2008-2009 tryout dates as follows:
Tier II: Earliest date to hold Tier II tryouts will be June 13, 2008.
A/B: Earliest date to hold A/B tryouts will be August 15, 2008.
Tier I: Tryout dates will follow CAHA dates.
- Nominating Committee -
President Scott Scherer asked for Nominating Committee volunteers to
serve on the committee with V.P. Carla Dickerson.
The following club presidents said that they would ask their clubs members to volunteer to help:
Tri Valley
San Jose
Capital Thunder
- Kocian Award Criteria -
Carla Dickerson
will send the criteria out to all club presidents with a deadline
to submit candidates.
- USA Hockey District Representative Election -
Scott will email out the Candidate Statements from Frank Lang and
Charlie Fuertsch. Scott will follow up and inform club presidents of
ballot and voting process.
NORCAL October Meeting
October 20, 2007
The October was held Saturday October 20th at
Oakland Ice Center.
NORCAL August Meeting
August 25, 2007
The August NORCAL meeting was held Saturday August 25th,
at Logitech Ice in San Jose.
Action Points from the August 25, 2007 meeting:
CAHA Screening:
Please remind all new coaches and volunteers that
they need to have their background screening completed within 30 days
from their first contact or activity with the club. This means if
a new coach/volunteer helped out on August 17, 2007 for tryouts,
they need to have completed their screening by September 16, 2007.

NORCAL Budget and Rules Meeting
July 28, 2007
The July NORCAL meeting was held on July 28th
in South Lake Tahoe, California.
This meeting was the
annual budget approval and rule change meeting.
NORCAL Annual Meeting
May 5, 2007
The NORCAL Annual Meeting was held on Saturday, May 5th,
including the annual election of officers.
February 24, 2007
The NORCAL Board met on Saturday, February 24th at Sharks
Ice in Fremont.
January 20, 2007
The NORCAL Board met on Saturday, January 20th at Logitech
Ice in San Jose.
The following items were decided:
Playoffs:
- March 3-4: Mite Jamboree in Fresno
- March 23-25: B Playoffs in Vacaville
- March 30 - April 1: A Playoffs in Oakland.
Tryout Dates for 2007/2008 Season:
- Tier same as last year in July: 2nd Friday for AAA, 3rd Friday for AA.
- A/B: No sooner than August 17th.
- Preseason will begin after Labor Day with an effort to have Round
Robin-type tournaments so we can get 7-8 games pre-season. That structure
was not clearly defined but we will work on it over the next few months.
Likely that we will need some volunteer help to develop and execute
this plan if we take this approach.
Other:
- Mark Mauro reminded those hosting tournaments to contact IHONC as
far in advance as possible . needs to be agreement between IHONC and
the respective club.
- Anna Lane is chair of parent/coach/player education committee . is
effort to get control of escalating problems with all three. Please send
recommendations/ideas to her. Norbert Tydingco has also agreed to assist
Anna with this.
Possible Closure of Fresno Rink was discussed.
October 28, 2007
The following is a summary of the October 28th NORCAL Board meeting and
some reminders.

With the season starting, please remember that score sheets need to be
sent to NORCAL General Manager John Hamer at 1346 The Alameda, Suite 7,
San Jose, CA 95126, by the next mailing day after the game.

Please check the CAHA web site to make sure that all
of your coaches and managers have been screened. The
list of those who have completed screening is at

NORCALTreasurer Jennifer Clark is currently sending out bills for dues to
all clubs via e-mail. Please contact Jennifer if you have any questions
about your club's invoice.

Each club is responsible for ensuring that you comply with the NORCAL
and CAHA Player Development Requirement rules. Please have your club
president contact John Hamer with any questions.

Tournament teams picking up players from another club will need to obtain
release forms. Have your President or Registrar contact Roster Manager
Mike Donahue with any questions.

Tryout dates for next season will be set at the January meeting. If
you have feedback regarding when tryouts should begin for "A" and "B"
teams, please share that with your club representatives before the
January meeting.

RFPs went out to all club presidents for Mite Jamboree, Pre-Select camp,
as well as A/B playoffs. If your rink managers did not receive them,
please contact John Hamer ASAP.

There will be two playoffs in the Midget 16 division with those placing
1-4 in the regular season being considered A with two top teams going to
State. Teams placing 5-8 will have what will be considered a B playoff
with no state playoff available. It was also decided that there would
be no B division playoff at the Midget 18 level.

Each club who has teams in the Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam B divisions
will be required to provide one extra ice slot and referees due to extra
teams in the division. Each of those divisions will play 18 regular
season games.

The Jordan Kocian Award is presented annually to a Midget player on any
NORCAL Team (including Tier) who is aging out. The Kocian Award honors
the memory of Jordan Kocian each year by presenting the Jordan Kocian
Award to a final year Midget who exemplifies desire, determination,
dedication, leadership and inspiration in his/her approach to playing
hockey and living. The award is for accomplishments outside hockey as well
as inside hockey, it is for older midget players who been role models
to their peers and given their time back to the game and exemplified
the spirit of Jordan Kocian. Get applications to NORCAL President Scott

The Sharks Foundation has offered a Silent Auction booth to NORCAL for
12/7 and 12/9 . 3 people per each session. All items are donated and
all funds generated go to the NORCAL Scholarship Fund. Contact Carla
